We’re about to embark on an interesting journey at STEIM. Marc Chia approached us with an intention to play around with Gamelan music. At the same time, I was already talking to the Dutch National Museum of Ethnology (english website) about possible collaborations. They have lots of interesting instruments and ancient recordings (even wax cylinders) of music from all over the world, that are begging to get recorded, digitized and played with.
So, Marc and me went there and talked to Jos Taekema, who was also thrilled about the idea of the STEIM community getting its hands on objects and recordings from their collection. The idea is that this summer we want to do some initial experiments, aiming at a larger project in the next two or three years.
Let us know if you are interested in this kind of thing. We’ll have access to old instruments and old recordings, and our challenge will be to create new instruments and new recordings.
Any ideas? Leave a comment…
