Modular Environment by Alvin Aronson

The modular synthesis environment enables vast sonic permutations from a limited set of functions. Audio and control functions share a common language (Voltage). As a result the familiar concepts of notes, melodies, harmonies, rhythms and textures become transferable. As these distinctions break down the musician is able to create fluid, connected sonic worlds that can crystallize or melt at the turn of a knob.

Improvising on Film: A DIY Approach to Cinema by Kris Limbach

In his latest project “Music for dysfunctional airports” expanded cinema techniques on prepared and found super 8 film footage are used as a base material for generating visuals and sound. For this workshop, Improvising on Film: A D.I.Y. Approach to Cinema Kris Limbach proposes to go over his entire creative process with attendees, from filming and developing footage to transforming and destroying it.

DECIPHERING RANDOMNESS – creative hacking and coding workshop

Generating random numbers is not easy. People are extremely bad at generating random sequences. People behave in a mechanic and repetitive manner. Human brain aims to conceive reality within periodic sequences and patterns.

During the workshop the participants will learn:

practical application of pseudorandom generators for constructing visual works, music compositions and films with the use of languages such as Pure Data, Supercollider, LISP, Fluxus, Ianix etc. (automata, monte carlo method, random walks, Markov processes, pseudorandom generators, probability distributions and others)
extraction of randomness from a physical processes through hacking analogue devices for detection and amplification of electromagnetic fields (ultrawaves, infra, microwave etc.), gas particles, photons and decay of radioactive materials (alpha, beta, gamma) and complex random brain processes
mapping of random streams output to parameters of sound devices, DMX light beams, video and 3D projections

E-TEXTILE WEEK : Noisy Textiles Workshop

This workshop is an introduction to the world of e-textiles and soft-circuits through the use of wearable microcontrollers, digital electronics and soft conductive materials.During the workshop the participants are going to engage in hands-on prototyping and explore the process of crafting electronics on textile while experimenting with 8-bit sound.

Body Sonification by A. Novello & M. Baalman

The aim of the workshop is to explore various body based sensing technologies, such as acceleromenters, bend/stretch sensors and muscle sensors, for sonification in performative contexts.

An introduction to the Eagle software and DIY PCB etching

Manu Retamero and Pascual Rocher will host an intensive workshop where they will explain how to design electronics circuits using the Eagle software and then translating that design into a working circuit by etching a PCB.
