Think Tank #17 – Specializing vs the Broader View

September 18th, 2013 7:30 pm

The Soundlings collective, in partnership with STEIM, organizes regular meetings to informally discuss current topics of interest for the broader field of musicians, producers, and sound artists. Attendance is limited and by reservation.

This time around the discussion will focus on “Specialising yourself while also maintaining a broad view”. Many artists seem to encounter this dilemma… On the one hand it pays off to specialize in certain fields, gaining the kind of expert knowledge that makes one stand out among peers. On the other hand its extremely useful to have a broad knowledge that reaches across many different fields of expertise. And there is never enough time to do it all. In our meetup we can share experiences and talk about the choices we made.

The discussion will take place at the STEIM Foyer on the 18th of September at 19:30. Please note that the STEIM Foyer entrance is on Utrechtsedwarsstraat 134 (the back entrance to STEIM). The discussion is organized and moderated by ‘Soundlings’ and as usual there will be a video stream.

We can only create a meaningful discussion with a limited amount of participants, so attendance will be limited to reservation by email.

If you feel like you have something important to add to the discussion please send a mail with your motivation to thinktank [AT] soundlings [DOT] com
