SUMMARY:Think Tank #12 &#8211\; All About Mapping
DESCRIPTION;ALTREP="http://steim.org/event/think-tank-12-all-about-mapping/
":The Soundlings collective\, in partnership with STEIM\, organizes regular
meetings to informally discuss current topics of interest for the broader
field of musicians\, producers\, and sound artists. Attendance is limited a
nd by reservation.\nThis edition of Think Tank will revolve around question
s of mapping in the digital arts (and beyond). Mapping is the process by wh
ich we translate one type of information to another\; for example\, the que
stion of how to best translate a button press into a complex musical respon
se is largely a question of mapping. Mapping is an essential design choice
in nearly all digital artworks from video games\, to new musical instrument
s\, to data visualizations\, and immersive interactive media environments.
The discussion will be led by Marije Baalman and Georgios Papadakis\, two a
rtists who have dealt extensively with this topic in research and practice.
\nThe discussion will take place at the STEIM Concert Space on the 15th of
January at 19:30. Please note that the STEIM Concert Space entrance is on U
trechtsedwarsstraat 134 (the back entrance to STEIM). The discussion is org
anized and moderated by ‘Soundlings’ and as usual there will be a video str
eam.\nWe can only create a meaningful discussion with a limited amount of p
articipants\, so attendance will be limited to reservation by email.\nIf yo
u feel like you have something important to add to the discussion please se
nd a mail with your motivation to thinktank [AT] soundlings [DOT] com\nDate
 : Tuesday 15 January\, 2013\nTime: 19:30\nCost: Free. Attendance is by rese
 rvation.\nLocation: STEIM Concert Space\, Utrechtsedwarsstraat 134\, Amster
