Brian D. McKenna
For everyone who appreciates DIY electronic music: STEIM presents the Standuino Orchestra and Brian D. McKenna. An evening full of crackling, noisy, hand-made electronica!
Standuino Orchestra is an open-invitation-improvised-music-group that consist of
everyone who has his Standuino instrument. As much of a performance as it is a social event – the most important message of the orchestra is that anyone can be a member and to pick up the social importance of music.
Any member of the orchestra can organize events and invite other members to play. The repertoire of the orchestra consists mainly of compositions by Czech composer Karel Bastl (1873-1918). The main conductor Ondřej Merta with his assistant Václav Peloušek searched the archives to search for innovative ways of playing improvised music from the edge of 19th and 20th century. They try to deliver authentic experience of such music for the audience. At present moment fresh contemporary composers are composing pieces for the orchestra ( Hans W. Koch, Lucie Vítková, Standa Filip and others ).
With growing numbers (at the moment more than 300 members) it is the largest orchestra in middle Europe (and maybe in the world). Standuino orchestra already took part in various events: MusikNacht Boutique Cologne Germany, Neue Heimat Berlin Germany, Školská 28 Prague CZ, Chomsky bar Riga Latvia, Soundexchange festival GhoeteInstitut Riga Latvia, Device_art Festival Zagreb Croatia, Multiplace festival Brno and Zlín CZ, Generator city – Dum umeni Brno CZ, ArtMap opening-Dum umeni Brno CZ, Festival Intermedia Banská Bystrica Slovakia, solo concert in Boro Brno and many other spontanious events.
