SUMMARY:FEB 21 ++ NIGREDO preview @STEIM from 11h &#8211\; 18h
DESCRIPTION;ALTREP="http://steim.org/event/nigredo-preview-feb21/":Reservat
ions are now closed.\n\nCome join us before the opening ceremonies of Sonic
Acts for the initial preview of new media and sound artist Marco Donnarumm
 a's latest work\, Nigredo. Nigredo\, developed during a residency at STEIM\
, is designed as a private 8 minute artwork to be experienced by one visito
r at a time. The work draws from studies in analytical psychology\, human s
ensory systems\, and biotechnologies to create an intimate and uncanny expe
rience of one's internal self.\nThe work uses ad hoc biofeedback methods an
d wearable bioacoustic technology to create feedback systems within the vis
itor's own body through sound (bioacoustics) and bioelectric signals. The s
enses are heightened beyond their natural threshold\, so as to induce an in
tense experience between viscera and perception.\nThe term Nigredo comes or
iginally from alchemy\, where it is referred to as putrefaction or decompos
ition. In order to create the philosopher’s stone\, alchemists would produc
e a homogeneous black matter by slowly cooking all their ingredients at onc
 e. Later in the framework of analytical psychology\, the term Nigredo becam
e a metaphor for the moment of despair and disillusionment caused by a spir
aling descent into the dark unknowns of the subconscious mind.\n\nWe welcom
e you to come experience the work for yourself. Due to the limited number o
f available slots it is recommended to reserve in advance. -Reservations ar
e now closed-\nShowings will happen every ten minutes from 11h-14h and 15h-
18h\, with no showings the last ten minutes of each hour.\nDETAILS\n\nDATE:
  21 FEB 2013\nTIME: Five showings per hour\, one every 10 minutes\n11h – 14
 h\n15h – 18h\nCOST: FREE\nLOCATION: STEIM\, Achtergracht 19\, Amsterdam ( g
oogle map )\n\nThe techniques used in this artwork are completely safe\; bi
ofeedback and bioacoustic technologies are commonly used by medical practit
ioners to probe into bodily mechanisms that are otherwise imperceptible. Pl
ease note\, however\, that the work includes high sound pressure level and
 pulsating lights.\n
