During ADE 2018 Steim presents the workshop:
Introduction in analog modular synthesizer systems
- Always wanted to know what this hype is about?
- Want to know what the heck the musician is doing by turning all these knobs?
- What is so special about ‘analog’ synthesizers!?
If you are interested in sound synthesis but so far have been doing that with ‘software instruments’, you may be interested in learning more about analog synthesizer hardware.
This workshop is about these wonderful machines which don’t come with hundreds of presets, instead they come with a bunch of patch cables, so you have to create a sound from scratch.
In this workshop Frank Baldé will teach you the basics of sound synthesis using an analog synthesizer. You will also learn about the history of these machines, west-coast versus east-coast synthesis, the choices that you are faced with today, etc. Of course you will also have time to play with a machine, so don’t forget to bring some recording device and a pair of headphones!
